Unseen Community Connects Us All

I appreciate the family across the street who welcomed home a baby daughter the same week I moved in. As she grew up, I knew that was how long I had lived in my house. We’re not close, but I know we watch out for each other. 

Sometimes it’s important to think about the people outside our first circle who do care about us. They may not be our best friends or our blood relatives, but they are our community.

Then there are those we form a sense of family with, even if each person is not a part of our core support.

This weekend I’m going to the coast with my costume troupe. The regular members know my ups and downs, my worst and best parts. They are my chosen family of weirdos who dress up in odd outfits together. (See photo) The new guest artists get to see me in that authentic self, even if they don’t know me yet. 

Then there’s this unseen community that I have learned about through being a tarot reader.

At the start of every reading, I call in our guardians, guides, angels, and ancestors…

Unravel Feelings of Isolation

Being around people or finding partnership is not the most effective cure for loneliness.

I believe it ties deeply to how we relate to ourselves, and the quality of kinship that we share with others.

One of my favorite things about the work I do is that I get to have meaningful exchanges with people about what matters to them the most. We get to explore hope, feelings, love, and possibilities together.

This week, I offer you these questions to consider what steps you can take to feel more in touch with what best serves your own freedom from feelings of isolation that seem so common these days.

Creating Real Connection is Messy

Today, I want to talk about Community.

How do we create more connection between us?

How do we turn acquaintances into close friends?

How do we become comfortable with the uncomfortable that this can involve?
