Navigate to your best life
My Dad has always been the man with a book balanced on his chest. He has shelves and stacks of textbooks on history and science and he’s actually read them all.
My very social mom has done her best to keep her beloved introvert in good company. He regularly regales dinner parties with stories and fascinating factoids.
Now I’m excited to share that we can have his own book in our collections!
He just turned 80 in June and this month he has published his first full novel! He’s been working on this for decades, editing and updating along the way.
It’s a two part historical fiction about the Queen of Eqypt. He did extensive research to gather as many facts as possible from 3500 years ago. This book is an act of love for an amazing woman of ancient history.
Find Hatchepsut: Female Falcon over Egypt on Amazon or Barnes and Noble
It is available as a Hardback, Paperback, Kindle, and Ebook. If you have a Kindle subscription, I believe it’s free to download. (This is fresh news, so all editions will be on both sites by next week.)
This update got me thinking about the ways we can start our day by bringing our voice to paper.
I had the thought that writing is like dancing for your hand and wrist.
Whether it’s tap dancing on the keyboard, swyping fingers on the skating rink of your phone, or swirling a pen to page, you are moving words with from your mind to your fingers and out into the world.
This week, I have begun to write morning pages. I decided to keep it analogue to enjoy the most creative form of this type of dance. I love journals and pens, and so I get to use my favorites as an extra delight.
My friend Ivana is joining me as an accountability buddy, which helps me a lot.
I love to write and yet I rarely make time for it. One thing I have learned is that writing a little is the best way to write a lot.
Doing this weekly newsletter has been a wonderful way to build a healthy habit, and I am grateful to each of you who check in.
Morning pages offers me the added bonus to say whatever is on my mind without concern for who is reading.
I can describe my dream from the previous night or what I am looking forward to in the day ahead. I might journal about my worries or epiphanies. It can be boring or creative. I don’t have to put pressure on it being special or inspired, but it could lead somewhere magical.
A quick jaunt to jot only takes me about 5 to 10 minutes, and gives me a way to start my day that is not scrolling on my phone (a habit I am ready to be done with).
I hope you might join me in your own daily practice. Feel free to send me the highlights of your best notes if you desire to share them!
