Court Card Characters

First, a fun opportunity!

A client has collected a group of friends who all want to learn tarot and we have a tarot class happening in May.

They graciously welcome more of you to join us! (The dates slightly changed from the last email about this, and these current dates and times are solid.)

This is likely the only 9-hour class I will be teaching this year, so I hope you can join if you want to learn the cards.

If you need to miss a class, I can record the Zoom sessions for you to watch at your convenience.

Art of Tarot Classes will run on Saturdays

May 2nd, May 16th, and May 30th

11:30am to 2:30pm PST (you can eat lunch while we learn)

Here’s what one student, Devon, had to say:

“I took the three week on-line class The Art of Tarot with Jenna and it was fabulous! She is an excellent teacher and made the cards make sense and come alive in an easy and approachable way. Class was fun! I learned SO much! Take a class, have a private lesson or get a reading from her.”

I am also teaching an interactive workshop on Psychic Intuitive Skills at the Spirit Northwest Conference in Portland this weekend. There are still day passes available for Saturday when I teach.

Today I am offering a small lesson to give you a taste of how I break down the cards into simple concepts.

The court cards are the character cards. They are personalities and ways of approaching life.

Sometimes these relate to community in your life and sometimes they represent phases of self that you are stepping into.

For instance, if you’re a new homeowner, you’re probably going to get the pentacles suit more as you figure out the earth in your life. You will likely learn to manage resources, finances, physical projects and grounding.

If you’re in school, you’re probably going to get the swords suit characters who are the most intellectually engaged. These folks are focused on reasoning, wisdom, and communicating in a direct and logical fashion.

A fun way to learn the court cards is to align a character from a movie, book, or your life reflects the nature of that personality.

Action heroes would fit in with the wands suit for instance. Especially ones who don’t think too much or plan too much before they jump into getting to kicking butt.

Actors also can reflect aspects of the cards. Creative powerhouses such as Meryl Streep are a wonderful representation of the cups suit. The way she’s able to empathically embody nearly anyone with emotional depth is a great example of the cups energy. She’s also a Cancer Sun Sign, which fits the same zodiac aspect of water elements as cups.

If you’re familiar with astrology, you can use the zodiac to be a part of the elemental nature in the court cards as well.

Next, you can look at the age mentality of each the court cards.

Pages are open-minded, curious and youthful in spirit. While they have young energy, an elderly person who is retiring and wants to step into a totally new hobby is also a page in that field.

Knights are actively engaged in the pursuit of their passion for the element they are representing. They often can be a bit smug in their confidence. Think of someone getting more talented at aspects of life without real experience to back it up yet.

Queens and Kings are equals as peak examples of skill in their elements. The Queen’s bring a more feminine energy to their mastery. Kings bring a more masculine energy. Don’t get caught up in the gender binary. Anyone can reflect the masculine or feminine in how they are holding their power.

This is a small taste of a light tarot lesson to get across. We go over this in depth and dive into more complex subjects in the class. We will learn about reversals, symbolism, numbers, tapping into your own psychic gift, and juxtaposing the cards to create a new meaning, among other lessons.

No time for class, but still want to learn? Bring a group of friends together for a lower individual rate when you sign up for a tarot reading lesson with me.

Learn the cards while listening in each other’s readings in a Tarot Together session.

If you prefer to get a reading from a professional instead, sign up for a personal tarot reading session.

Give your community the gift of short reading tastes when you hire tarot or palm reader from Portlandia Fortune Tellers for your next event.

Have a great weekend with whatever court card characters you choose to hang out with.
