Navigate to your best life
I recently had a bout of COVID. It was so light that I was shocked when I tested positive, which was lucky, but I still had to isolate.
At first, I was grumpy. Right at the start of extroverted Leo season, I had to tuck myself away. Blarg.
I cleaned my car and room and my office to feel productive. But I knew that I needed to rest properly.
I decided to tap into the wisdom of the Hermit Card and do one of my favorite things that most people don’t enjoy. I put on the Kanopy app (free movies with your library card!) for some obscure cinema, and I watched slow existential movies.
The Tree of Life by Terrence Malick, Archipelago by Joanna Hogg, La Chimera by Alice Rohrwacher, You, the Living by Roy Anderson.
All my selections were weird and sometimes boring, yet thoughtful pieces on the meaning of life. I am not even recommending these unless you are really into very little happening in a plot, or things not making a lot of sense.
But I love this genre. It makes me feel connected to a subtle wisdom. It slows me down. I sense more poetry around me.
I prefer to watch these alone, rather than with someone huffing at the pretentious nature of art films. I am my own best companion for this type of activity. So I made some tea and snuggled in for some high art.
We often talk about getting quality time with those that we love, but then when we are alone we often throw on a reality TV show and zone out.
This week, I hope you will make some of your alone time precious.
– What do you love to do that others rarely appreciate in the same way?
– How do you create a sense of connection with your higher spiritual self?
– What would make your alone time feel more nourishing or sacred?
– What’s something you’ve wanted to do but haven’t made space for?
– What do you need to make your time alone be creative, reflective, restful, or playful?
Feel free to message me what your best alone time looks like and why. I would love to know!
