Decompress in Weird Ways

Last week, I saw the Pixar film, Inside Out 2, which I loved. The story highlights the good and bad aspects of anxiety in a unique and fun way, and got me thinking about my own mental mechanisms.

Life is stressful. We can’t really avoid that if we want to accomplish our higher goals, love people around us in their challenges, and stay healthy and secure.

In the film, the character of Anxiety is not inherently bad. She is even wise in some ways. She only becomes a problem when she takes too much control or goes into overdrive.

Anxiety can be managed through direct practices, regardless of the problem that created the tension.

We all know about how bubble baths, exercise, and getting enough sleep can help. But I wanted to share some more oddball ways of resetting the mind and body.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR): This technique involves tensing and then slowly relaxing each muscle group in the body.

Trumpet Breath: Inhale and then purse your lips and blow the air out slowly while puffing your cheeks out to trigger your vasovagal nervous system.

Laughter: Call a funny friend, or get a personal tarot reading from a humorous psychic.

Chewing Gum:
Yup! Chewing gum has been found to lower cortisol levels.

Cold Exposure: Brief exposure to cold, such as taking a cold shower or a plunge into a cold pool, can activate the parasympathetic nervous system.

Hug it out: 45 seconds to a minute minimum does the trick, but aim for longer if you have a good cuddly friend (or pet) who you can then treat to a Tarot Together reading.

Meditative Presence: Intuition coaching is essentially a training to help you get aligned with your internal quiet wisdom through presence practices.

Hope your week had less stress than mine just did! If some extra stress has come your way, I hope these self care techniques help you relax through it all.

Aggghhghghghgh,
