Embrace Your Best Pace

While in India in 2007, one of my favorite places was a lovely little city called Omkareshwar.

I befriended a sadhu there, a man who lived with very few possessions, but did not go very long without smoking bhang (ganja).

Walking across an old bridge, we witnessed a goat battle a monkey on the bridge. The goat won in the bloodless battle.

The scene got me giddy, and I started hustling up the hill on the other side.

The sadhu yelled, “Stop!”

I turned to him, and he pointed to the sky and said, “Sun, full power; You, no full power!”

These words pass through my mind at this year every time.

On that note of wisdom, let’s consider how to capture the moment with presence during the active season.

Start the Day with Focused Breaths

There is a wonderful benefit to the whole day when you start your routine with mindfulness. Roll out of bed and onto a seated pillow to ease into the flow.

Schedule in Rest

It’s easy to overbook the warm season. Remember to plan in your calendar for downtime where you can rest with a book in a hammock.

Slow Your Movements
Regularly pause, take a breath, and choose to get conscious with your physical swiftness. You’ll get there on time, and safer, with body awareness.

Unplug into Nature

No cell phone service? Turn it off or on ‘Do Not Disturb’ and tune out from the internet for a bit. If you’re out in wilderness, enjoy the distance, but please do carry your phone in the bag for emergencies.

I hope you find your own healthy pace this summer and enjoy the delights that the warmth offers.
