Navigate to your best life
This week, my best friend since I was 8 years old is visiting.
It’s a unique reflection to have someone close who has known you through so many phases of life.
I’m extra lucky that Sheri is a compassionate and kind witness, since other people I have known for years do not always offer such grace.
She and I started from a similar place: same school, same church, same taste in movies (Neverending Story, Dirty Dancing, Lost Boys, Willy Wonka, etc).
Our roads diverged quickly in our early 20’s when she got married and I graduated college. She’s now a Navy Mom of three who is a year away from an empty nest, and I am a solo entrepreneur who’s managing mid-life singledom.
Despite our different realms, we still get each other. We’re visiting my parents, and she can see so clearly how my family dynamic plays out from childhood to now.
Take a moment to consider seeing yourself from who you were in your youth to who you have become.
What influences pulled you one direction or another through your life?
How do other people’s reflections of who you are influence who you have become?
If you are still connected to someone kind who has known you for years, consider reaching out to them and offering each other insights into who you were and who you each have become. Sometimes, they can make sense of the trajectory from an angle you couldn’t see.
