Tips to Value Your Attention More

I value your attention and am grateful to each of you who read these newsletters. I try to put thought and care into each of them to show my own regard for your presence here.

In this fascinating era we are existing in, our focus is being pulled so many directions. It’s a challenge to lead a simple life. Even as I write this email, distractions pull me sideways.

Today, my wish is to inspire us all to simply engage more fully with our attention setting.

This can be with depth, bringing mindfulness to the mundane moments as you chop a potato or drive your car.

This can be with choice, considering what is taking your time in a way that needs shifted.

Phone

Some of us can choose to leave the phone in another room, or put it on Do Not Disturb and only allow essential people to ring through. Offer yourself this over the weekend if it’s possible in your lifestyle.

One phone tool I love is FocusMe, which shuts down any app I request it to after the time I allotted for myself. You can override it when needed, but it altered my habits on social media immensely.

TV

If you relax with TV time, you can consider what energy the programs are offering you.

Perhaps you could benefit from more enriching movies by watching a work of art on the wonderfully curated Kanopy streaming service (10 free movies per month with your library card).

If you need less brain in your downtime, consider whether the shows you consume give an uplifting message, or resonate with criticism and depression.

As much as I love sci-fi, I pass up most Armageddon stories these days. I enjoy true crime, but now I save that as a treat that is not right before sleep. I try to lean into collaborative reality TV like Making it or the British Baking Show over Survivor

Time Well Spent

Consider today what Quality Time means to you, and ask your loved ones to join you in this goal.

Arts and crafts or a game night together creates connection and memories.
Zoom chats with a friend abroad expands our world.

Learning a new skill like an instrument has been proven to help us overcome the blues.

Connection with a Unique Perspective

One of the reasons I love reading tarot is because I get to be completely absorbed in someone else’s world. That space of pure focus is precious to me, and it helps that I find our lives captivating.

If you crave some healthy focus on You with a compassionate companion, sign up for a tarot reading with me today or bring your friends together for an online tarot event of tuning into each other’s lives or learning the tarot together.

This message was inspired by the Instagram video posted below of Andrea Gibson, who was just named Poet Laureate of Colorado this week. Enjoy.
