Navigate to your best life

Last weekend, you may have heard that Burning Man became a muddy mess.
In the same moment, the large camp out event I was enjoying also faced a crisis as multiple people got food poisoning.
In both situations, the community rallied to support each other.
Despite the news touting a disaster in Black Rock City, my friends returning from Burning Man this week are saying it was their best year ever. The challenge bonded them.
My fellow camp mates also shared how much it meant for them to witness their friends show up 100% for the people who were taken ill. Even the people who got sick said they were moved by feeling so held.
We spend a lot of time and energy guarding ourselves against these types of challenges. We worry about whether things going wrong will lead to collapse.
This week, I also watched the horror movie The Mist. In this fictionalized story, a group of people trapped in a grocery store fail to work in unity to the point of murdering each other.
That is the type of story that we hear the most through media.
From this mindset, Chris Rock hitchhiked out of Burning Man, joking that it would turn to cannibalism. I understand where he sourced this fear, and I hope he saw later that he missed out on an opportunity to alter this anxiety and build connection.
The stories we tell have a profound effect on our expectations of ourselves and others.
When we actually observe the people around us, instead of what the media shines it’s light on, we might find that people are generally better than we presume.
Today, consider a moment where crisis struck and you saw people show up. Hold that in your heart. Notice where your fears are being fed fiction.
One of the reasons I love my work is that it lets me show up with total presence for people and shine a light on benefits and positive potentials for their future.
