Today is my birthday!

Today I am offering a more personal share with my annual ritual of pondering on where I have been and where I am going. I am also sharing a video of Gary the Unigoat below for your entertainment.
My hope is that you may relate to some of the messages or come up with your own mid-summer ponder.
In my 47th year on earth, I took on more leadership roles in my costume troupe and in purchasing an event-focused tarot business, Portlandia Fortune Tellers.
I’ve learned that leadership is best done with curiosity and humility.
Ask questions before presuming. Learn what others need from you to thrive as a group. Accept what people can bring and consider whether it’s the right fit for your needs.
My hope for the year ahead is that I am able to remain focused on the big tasks that intimidate me in building my businesses and accomplishing long-term goals.
On that same note, I’ve learned this year that I’m legitimately ADHD. It turns out that my friend’s teasing me was actual insight.
Through this diagnosis, I have learned that when I slow down and rest more, I am able to better find my own peak performance. I’m still learning the skills of how to implement that, but I’m aware of its value.
Last year and going forward, I’m both learning and calling in compassion for myself and others in the challenges of being ourselves.
These are uncertain times, and I want to accept that I may not be at my best some days, and I want to try to meet others where they are at.
For all of us, life is a constant balance act. I love reading tarot because it gives people a supportive and unique perspective on their own growth. Consider doing a similar reflection on your past and future during a personal tarot reading or an intuition coaching session with me.
Treat a birthday friend to a more spectacular party when you hire a tarot or palm reader with Portlandia Fortune Tellers. We offer in-person entertainment in the Portland and Salem areas as well as online experiences.
For a more personal treat, take your favorite Leo out for a Tarot Together session to give them the focused attention they crave.

As the heat builds, let’s all engage more with water for body, mind, and spirit.
In the Tarot, the water element of the cups suit represents emotions and spirituality. It’s the essence of the heart. When we drink or consciously touch water, we better balance our whole system from the heart center.
I often find that if I am overly stressed or anxious, a glass of water makes an enormous difference in my mood.
We know our human form is essentially a bag of salty H2O. This means that drinking water with electrolytes is going to regulate your system even more.
I also find it incredibly healing to get into water and this is the perfect season for that.
Swimming in a lake or ocean or even putting your feet in a river is incredibly nourishing. I like to sing songs to the water at times.
We can also tune in fully and listen to the trickles of the sounds of the river making it’s own song.
I enjoy doing rituals with water. Many cultures bathe each part of their body with awareness before prayer to clarify their spirit.
Create moon water by placing a bowl of it in the light of the full moon to infuse healing energy into it. You can then anoint this water on your shrine or yourself.
If you go through an especially challenging time that felt life-changing, take a sacred bath to center yourself in a sense of rebirth.
When I stand on a bridge with a river crossing underneath, I’ll imagine the current moving through my body and allow all that is not mine anymore and all stagnant energy to go downstream with the river and then welcome in fresh new energy replenishing from the flow behind me.
If you don’t have an opportunity to get near fresh water, consider making yourself an Epsom salt bath. Epsom salts help you clear inflammation from your body. They also energetically clear your spirit field according to witches and woo folk.
If you’re more of a shower person, you can also just scrub Epsom salts into your skin for an exfoliating energetic release of all that does not serve you.
Whatever you do, drink enough water this summer. That alone is giving yourself a great grace.
Make a splash at a party by welcoming a tarot or palm reader with Portlandia Fortune Tellers. We offer in-person entertainment in the Portland and Salem areas and with online experiences.
Find a deeper waters within yourself during an intuition coaching session.

Happy Independence Day in the USA
May we all take part in the freedoms we enjoy the most and cherish our democracy over this weekend and beyond.
Self-expression is a precious right that I am about to go relish as I play in a variety of costumes with my troupe, Risk of Change. Started by a group of gay men adjacent to the radical faeries in the 1980’s, we are celebrating our 40th anniversary this year!
Last week, a wonderful 1-hour documentary about the Oregon Country Faire came out that includes highlights of our crew.
You might even catch a quick shot of me dressed up as my gnome, Oomph von Ploomph!

Free Reading for July
This reading is done with the Animal Totem Tarot by by Leeza Robertson and Eugene Smith
This reading breaks down into two essential stories.
The King of Pentacles reversed with the Strength card combo is reminding us that we have the power within us to pull through the long slogs.
Muster up your patience and take your own steady pace forward. Be cautious not to get stuck in a rut of stubbornness or inaction.
This can also remind us to work smarter, not harder.
What ways is your routine or old mentality adding weight to your load?
Is there a way to ease up your tasks by releasing some rigidity around how it gets done, or being less possessive over it?
The Queen of Swords reversed with the Two of Cups reversed combo is a warning heeded around our communication choices this month.
Have you ever said something cutting or foolish and damaged a relationship in an instant?
I have . . .and I still cringe to think of it.
This reading is asking us to be considerate when we share our honesty with loved ones.
Bring your messages with kindness and fore thought.
Righteous quickness is not going to serve connections.
If you find yourself triggered, pause and wait until you can respond with clarity over cruelty. You will be better heard and spare yourself regret.
The combo of all four cards speaks to how overwhelm and stubbornness can lead to communications glitches with those closest to us.
Remember to slow down in the heat, hydrate with electrolytes, and think before you speak when you are the most on edge.
Consider how to communicate lovingly through the challenges when you get a companion / couple’s tarot reading with me.
The heat of summer is coming to the Pacific Northwest, and with it comes a busy season in both work and play.
For myself, the tourists and events want readers to add to their summer magic. Plus, my yard and garden needs most of it’s annual maintenance and attention.
For all of us, Nature is calling us to relish in her current vibrancy. Our community has more opportunities to connect in person. Travel might be in the works. And yet we still need to do all the other things that we also do in winter.
So much is going on all at once! How do we juggle it all?!
So today, I want to talk about the Wands Suit.
Each suit in tarot is related to one of the elements, and Wands is about Fire.
Fire is passion, movement, energy, action. It can relate to exercise and focus and attraction.
Here are some highlight messages from the Wands Suit:
Ace of Wands:
Let yourself enjoy your sparks of inspiration, and do your best to make space for yourself to follow the flow when possible.
Two of Wands:
When it’s hot outside and we have a lot to do, it’s important that we pace ourselves to a rhythm that let’s us slow down. Breathe with awareness and drink water to cool down throughout the warm days.
4 of Wands:
Seek out community connections and make use of the social time of year. Play with others and maybe even make some new friends.
5 of Wands:
The passion of fire means we can sometimes be a short fuse when it comes to conflict. Remember that immediacy is not your friend when you’re feeling triggered. Pause and assess how to respond to that annoying text after your initial reaction has passed.
8 of Wands:
Decide what you’ll focus on and each day direct your attention on it as fully as possible during the scattered distractions of the summer months.
9 of Wands:
Constant action can lead to burn out, and it’s important that we schedule downtime during the hot months. Don’t try to over-prove yourself when you’re already stretched.

To consider more about Wands as a magical tool, watch the video below that I made during 2020 Shelter-in-place.
We in the Northern hemisphere are tilted toward the sun and have thus returned to the longest day of the year!
This weekend, consider making some time for a ritual to celebrate in the ways our ancestors of various lineages have for many centuries. This has always been a world-wide celebrated event, so it might be fun to look up your own historical practices of your own ancient relations.
Greet the Dawn: take a moment in the morning when you wake up to acknowledge the sun with gratitude for the life it supports
Build a Bonfire: make a (safe) fire or light a candle and celebrate the nature of the Sun’s warmth. You can write an intention of something you are ready to release as we step into the new season and burn it, or perhaps sing a song to the fire.
Gather Herbs: if you have a garden or know a good spot in nature with wild herbs, collect some and cook a meal with them, or dry them for a summer tea.
Feast with Friends: create a potluck with community and share in your wishes for the summer ahead
Wash your Doors: Use a mix of vinegar and water or another natural solution and wash off your doors. You can also use olive oil and draw a protection sigil afterward.
Bring a little extra magic into your summer manifestations when you get a personal tarot reading for insight or an intuition coaching for your own self-trust development.
Celebrate with you closest community when you sign up for a Tarot Together reading.

Blessed Be Your Summer,
Jenna Lynne Roberts
Last Friday, I woke up far too early with anxiety.
I had a full day of readings ahead and a major home project in progress. The news cycle also created a lot of strong feelings and was hard to look away from.
My brain whirled at how I would manage to keep my focus on the readings which require deep presence, while also finding space for the house project.
The heat wave was coming, and the yard was currently in disarray. If I didn’t do it that day, it meant postponing another 4 days til temperatures cooled.
My cortisol levels already spiking, I knew I wasn’t going to get more than the 4 hours of sleep I had manged.
I often overbook myself, take on too much, and resist pulling out of any commitments when I realize I am past my limits.
My German mom and workaholic dad taught me to just push on through the overwhelm. I am grateful for the fortitude they instilled in me, but I am trying to learn a new way.
I want to make different choices when I get this drained and fried out.
So I got up, and put away the tools and work gear. I tidied up the mess from the partially done big task. I accepted that it would reside in limbo.
This felt like a big shift for me. I didn’t push through. I backtracked. I paused. I prioritized my focus on one zone to manage, instead of spreading myself too thin.
I had a fantastic day of readings for it. I drank a green tea that helped with the sleep deprivation and I was able to engage fully with each client.
We laughed, cried, and we found answers for their journeys. I love my job and feel honored to share these moments with people. Every cell in my body was grateful that I chose my focus more fully that day.
With the state of the world adding to our stress, some days the scattered chaos and emotional overwhelm pushes it’s way in. I can’t take on as much as I would like to when that happens.
Some days we have to accept our limits and prioritize the need to decompress.
Here are some ways that I am learning to make different choices that I hope might help you.
Taskmaster:
– Organize my life on a prioritized to-do list (I like the app todoist)
– Consider that things will take longer than I expect to complete
– Acknowledge what I do get done, pause to rest briefly between tasks
– Allow actual space in my schedule when I can
– Hire someone to help with time consuming tasks that I can afford support on
Reassess:
– Be compassionate with myself about the emotional challenges I am
facing that day, and accept I am not going to get as much done
– Tell friends when our plans are tentatively penciled in due to being booked on a busy week
– Cancel or reschedule lower priorities when I see I am pushing my limits (I almost never do this for readings unless I am sick, as they are my livelihood and I enjoy my work immensely)
– Pause from immediacy: when new tasks show up, put them on the to do list instead of presuming they need done now
Self-regulation:
– Catch the moments that I am stressed, and see if I can make time for a brief meditation, a walk, some yoga, or a nap
– Make sure to drink water and eat protein all day
– Notice what is trying to distract me, and consider tuning it out for a period of time, using the Focus Me app to limit my spontaneous access to news and scrolling
– Reach out to friends for emotional support as needed
I hope you might consider arranging a self-care session with me to help you better align with your own focus.
You can get a personal tarot reading for insight or an intuition coaching to rehearse how you can shift your own energy toward healthier decision making habits.

This reading uses one of my oldest decks, the World Spirit Tarot by Lauren ‘Onca’ O’Leary.
The Sun shines bright on our month ahead with new opportunities. Focus on the positive and reach for potential shifts forward in promotions and new directions toward growth.
This is emphasized by the 3 of Pentacles character showing off her new project. Apply yourself to move forward in a practical direction with work and home.
This card can also inspire a gathering of cooperative team members who bring their own resources to a project that is ready to flourish.
So . . . we’re moving right along like the Muppets on a road trip and then -BLAMO- the 4 of Swords shuts down the charging forth with a loud call for rest and down time.
This combination is reminding us to pare down where we can to make room for slowing down alongside the new movement forward.
Where can you make cuts to your busy lifestyle to make time for restorative grounding while also sending energy into a new effort?
If you take on more, something else will need to be set aside, and centering in relaxation will require more scheduling.
If you don’t disconnect and decompress, you’ll end up making the hasty decisions of the reversed Knight of Swords. He casts off others wisdom to emphasize brash speed over sensible consideration.
Balance this month between vibrant go-getter up swings and full decompression down tempos. It’s a strange dance, but remember to value both the big efforts and the deep rest.
Use some of that chill time wisely when you sign up for a personal tarot reading with me help you assess how to make the most of the blessings this month has to offer.
Riddy Diddy Ding TIme,
Jenna Lynne Roberts
I have a confession . . .
I am an over-packer. (The image above is not my car . . . read to the bottom to see my packing job.)
I am going camping at a festival this weekend, and I am just grateful that it’s one where I am not alone in this baroque preparing.
It’s also a blessing that my travel companion is more of a minimalist so we can get it all in the car.
This is definitely an element of control for me. I want to have all my comforts and joys along for the ride. I am not carrying the items far, and I have my wagon for ease of delivery.
I was a girl scout, and I love having my little pouches with all the tiny items that rescue me from crisis. It quells my anxiety in the meantime.
I also see how too much stuff becomes a burden.
It’s a balance act.
So how prepared in life is the right amount for you, and how much is too much?
Here are some tenets of preparedness to consider for yourself.
Focus on Principles, not Scenarios
– Know how to adapt
– Plan for basic needs, communication, and safety
– Assess the situation before acting
A lot of people come in for readings for a sense of control over the unexpected.
Some readers may tell them the future with certainty. I believe it’s better to give them a sense of how they will manage the possibilities with their own empowered skills.
Build Flexible Systems
If we can do some If-Then thinking, it can help lower our anxiety around the uncertainty.
If this happens, then I will . . .
Consider the outcomes so that in the moment you can emotionally analyze your best choice and layer it with what you already decided was the logical answer.
A tarot reading is a great way to consider your if’s with the cards guiding you through your likely results with various responses.
Reassess and Simplify
Now that I have over-packed for camping, I can go through the items and pare down the excess.
Where are you worried about unlikely scenarios?
How can you unload the concerns that you have already prepared for?
A tarot reading can help you recognize where the overkill begins, and give you a sense of ease that you have planned enough.
Letting spirit guides be a part of your preparations is like asking your friends for their perspective, but the friends who have a wider expanse of vision.
Another great way to gain a unique perspective is to understand astrological influences. An opportunity to learn some foundations in that is coming up in a few weeks with our final class in this series.

I sometimes talk about astrology on this newsletter, even though it is not my expertise. I share the information because I see how it has great value.
My goal is for people to use the upcoming alignments to shape our paths in a positive direction, instead of getting stuck in fear cycles around transits that so many hobbyists slip into.
I understand why some people dislike astrology. It has a power that is sometimes misapplied.
Some people use it to attack others, ‘Oh I don’t date Leos anymore.’
Or, ‘You’re a Scorpio? Ugh, that must be hard.’
These are dismissive presumptions that we already know someone, without doing the work to learn who they are more fully.
The more you comprehend about actual charts, the more the Sun sign becomes a small detail in a big picture.
Some friends will lean into how bad things are going to be due to a square coming up. This habit reflects more on their own desire to lean into negative presumptions of the future.
People can also deflect accountability by blaming retrogrades instead of owning their actions. Granted, sometimes life does get very discombobulated and makes it hard to be successful. But the fault is not in our stars, even if they are jacking things around.
We can gain immense value from learning more about how charts work. The more we know, the less we let the negative around astrology wash out the good.
Be aware not to make scary presumptions about what the messages mean.
I thought the recent Venus Retrograde would impact my current romantic relationship. It didn’t.
Instead, I had a challenge with my oldest friend that brought me an incredible awakening about my own fears in all relationships that I had never before considered. This self-awareness is invaluable, and is helping me move out of a shadow that will likely make my habits around all my connections improve.
The more I learn about astrology from experts, the more I see the information it offers as a compass to where I need to place my focus.
I once was scared of Mercury Retrograde, until an astrologer illuminated how it’s a great time to slow down with my hyper-productivity. Choose to say no to new ideas for a spell. And yeah sure, prepare all plans with the potential for unexpected shifts.
I now focus more on finishing things that need completed, and cleaning out my closets. It’s a time to reflect on how I am ready to grow, and gives me a whole 3 weeks to get myself aligned toward that.
In a few weeks, I am excited to dive into astrology with a true expert. It’s a fun and informative opportunity to join.

Today, let’s talk about all things Maternal with the Empress Card.
When I was traveling in my late 20’s, a wise woman helped me understand that my feminine self was shadowed by my masculine.
I grew up in a neighborhood full of boys, and I loved being included as one of them. We rode bikes and did trick endo’s by shoving our foot in the front tire.
I came home from ballgames, WWF mockups, skateboarding, and kick the bucket covered in bruises, concrete scrapes, and knowing all the worst insults an elementary kid could dare.
When I started the Thundercats club in a neighbor’s side yard, I insisted that I be Lion-O, and was verbally battled with to accept being Cheetara. She wasn’t the leader though, and I was the one who started the club. Me.
I already saw the feminine as marginalized and lesser, and so I valued my masculine traits more.
Now a young adult woman, I felt inspired to ponder on what it even means to be feminine. This in turn informed my concept of the Empress card in my tarot deck.
First, consider what words come to mind when you think about the essence of feminine energy.
The Empress is inherently about creative power. The female body contains the ultimate resource of creating life. Thus our queen sits in the center of a meadow of wheat and trees with a flowery dress and a spring of water flowing to her feet.
Motherhood in it’s healthiest story is about nurturing life into full bloom. It’s often a story of sacrifice and protection. A mom in the ideal is both strong and compassionate.
What nature do you assign to the ideal maternal?
How did your own mom form this idea, or counter it?
Let’s then consider the Empress card Reversed. What are the shadows of the mother spirit? (You can’t write “Smother” without it.)
What about those of us who choose not to bear children? Where do they hold maternal energy?
I didn’t have kids, but I have managed a home with multiple rooms for 15 years, and it has been a journey into learning how I ‘mom’ my housemates. Sometimes I am restrictive and assert my power to insist that chores are done. Other times I am flexible and forgiving, setting the rules aside as I witness them struggle through a challenge. There’s balance and nuance in my own feminine spirit, it seems.
Working in a female-centric field has taught me a lot about this flavor of being as well. I find that tarot readers are incredibly collaborative and community-focused. People in this traditionally feminine line of work are empathic and curious and service-oriented.
Men can also be more classically feminine. My ex-boyfriend would cry at movies more than me. I love that he allowed himself to express emotions freely, and it actually gave me room to hold him in a maternal way at times.
It’s not like I had to balance his feminine by being more masculine. We both brought our own masculine and feminine at times that suited us. We still do now as friends. We can all hold masculine and feminine energies simultaneously.
Watching beloved transwomen in my life blossom into their own feminine has informed me so much on how this essence expresses herself.
Each of these sisters softened into their open-hearts and became enamored of beauty and more in awe of the glory of nature during their journeys. It has been an honor and a joy to witness.
Who in your life displays the feminine in a way that moves your heart or shifts your beliefs about what this archetype entails?
I could obviously talk endlessly about this. Let’s wrap it up and send love to all the Mom’s in your life who show up with the archetype that serves your heart the best.
I want to thank my mom for being her authentic self and showing me the Empress Card in her own ways. From sweet back scratches with German songs before bed, to cajoling me into icy glacial lake swims, she brings a unique mix of nurturing and empowerment. She may not admit to it, but she’s a true feminist.
Most of all, I want to thank my Mom and Dad for letting me be one of the boys as a kid. It made me into being a better woman.
