Navigate to your best life
Most of the 78 cards in the Waite-Smith Tarot deck have multilayered meanings.
The act of reading is to mingle the various concepts in a spread and discern what overarching message is formed in that scenery.
Then there is the 9 of Cups, with one pure essence behind it:
Enjoy and be grateful. Savor, relish, appreciate.
While a thesaurus can dig up more words for a tarot guidebook, it all narrows down to basic gratitude.
I’ve read books on how to manifest. The key element they all include is the act of focusing on being grateful for what we already have. This is the path to spell casting our desires.
Thus, the 9 of Cups also is seen as a sort of wish fulfillment card, similar to the Major Arcana’s precious Star Card.
As we step into this upcoming holiday with the word ‘Thanks’ written right into it, let’s use this week beforehand to do a little magical daily practice.
Right now. Pause and reflect.
What are you grateful for about this exact moment?
Pause again with each thoughtful item and feel the sensations this particular gratitude creates in your body.
Rinse and Repeat.
If that felt good, post a note on your bathroom mirror to remind you to do this daily for the week ahead.
Play with how minute or immense your items on your list can be.
Hold your next delicious bite of food with deeper noticing of the details of flavor.
How does the joy of that taste flow through your whole being?
That this grand universe even exists is pretty spectacular.
How does pondering that feel? Where do you sense that thought lighting up in your body?
The fun of this is that there are actual scientific studies that prove this practice can improve your sleep, your immunity, your heart health, and your relationships. You can relieve anxiety and stress more easily, which we also all need around the holidays.
If you know someone who you want to express your gratitude to with a tarot reading or lesson, please gift them a reading from me.

Last week was all about letting go with the Lunar Eclipse marking the end of a two-year cycle.
This upcoming phase is about assessment of what you’ve learned since June, when Saturn went retrograde, and integrating that new awareness into fresh energy in your goals as it goes direct this Saturday.
If you felt like certain areas of progress were sluggish over summer, you can sigh relief that things should get easier in those areas that stifled.
In the ways that we might approach life from a romantic or idealistic mindset, we are being asked to get more intentional and serious about how we are approaching our goals.
Saturn’s recent reverse has been about shaking up our imaginative fluffy dreams and aligning them better with a smack of reality.
Here are some questions to help you consider how to make the most of this astro transition in your own path forward:
How can you get more honest about the realities of achieving what you desire?
What limitations or challenges have been presented to you in the last few months?
How do you want to apply yourself differently toward your goals?
What disciplines do you need to instill in your day to accomplish what you have set out to gain?
How can you empower yourself in an area that you have felt disempowered lately?
The good news is that things that felt slow should start to release and progress should come easier if we get more realistic about the path forward.
Tune into how to best approach your goals right now when you sign up for a tarot reading with me.
Then get connected with friends during this autumnal shift with an online tarot event or learn the tarot to share your new skills with loved ones.
Organize your Dreams,

This weekend marks the final lunar eclipse in a two year cycle related to Taurus and Scorpio.
The full moon is a time of letting go rather than manifesting, and the eclipse amplifies this energy.
As this event aligns with Samhain / Halloween / Day of the Dead, we can include a release of those shadows that do not serve us anymore.
Being that eclipses are a time to listen to guidance, we can also enjoy the thinner veils and talk to our departed loved ones as we tune into the insights they would offer.
This particular eclipse will be a good time to reflect on what you have learned about your relationships and finances in the last two years.
How have your values around love and money shifted?
What are your ready to commit to in this upcoming cycle that reflects your current ambitions and desires?
This is a time to allow change and transformation to come through. Don’t ask yourself to control the tides, just observe and ride the waves as gracefully as possible.
Give yourself some extra support through this phase when you sign up for a tarot reading with me.

Cinema is my first true love.
I was that kid in class who always had a movie reference for any topic.
I even procured a film degree and worked in the industry in NYC for three years. I found it was not so easy to find a creative role, which tarot offers me in, well, spades (and cups and wands and pentacles).
Both tarot and movies shine a light on collective unconscious archetypes in similar ways, and we can use both as a tool for self-awareness and growth.
Here’s some thoughts to think about movies for self-support:
What shows or movies resonate with me the most?
Are there some overlapping commonalities in the characters or struggles they must go through?
Characters:
Who do I relate to the most in these programs?
Do I get irritated with their behavior? What shadows do they express that I am possibly frustrated with myself about?
What qualities do they express that I see in me? Does this inspire me to be more myself in some way?
Subconscious Meanings:
What lessons do the characters need to learn that I also would like to attain?
What morals or messages of these stories sit in my heart? Are these healthy and uplifting?
How are these stories creating my world view?
How do I feel emotionally after watching a movie or show?
If you realize some stories are sending unhealthy messages or creating emotional upset, it’s not about judging or shutting off your favorite entertainment.
It’s about bringing your awareness of their impact or gifts to the surface so you can better engage with the growth they can provide.

At the Ashram in India over a decade ago, I was very frustrated with my Swami.
I wanted him to give me the answers and free me from my feelings of being lost.
He wouldn’t fess up. He just kept telling me that I had to find those answers within myself. Very annoying of him.
Each of us seek external support for our guidance.
We ask friends and family for their perspective, we go to coaches and consultants and teachers.
These are all great support systems that I celebrate you resourcing.
The catch is that these networks all function much better when you are also checking in regularly with your own inner guru.
Today, take a moment to reflect on what insights you have gained this week.
Where were you emotionally and mentally on Monday? How do you feel different by Today? (Try not to judge, just notice.)
What messages came through that you needed to hear?
Were there any coincidences that felt like they were trying to tell you something?
If you could summarize the essence of this week’s insights, what might it be?
It’s also a good opportunity to give yourself some credit and acknowledgement for your current progress.
How did you manage the challenges of the week?
Do you hold any regrets about your reactions? Can you hold yourself with love and forgiveness around that?
Did you have any wins that you are proud of? If so, take a moment to cherish yourself for your progress.
Consider how you’re already managing next week.
What stories are you creating about the future?
Visualize one act you want to accomplish next week and feel in your body how it will feel when this is completed.
If this exercise felt good to you, consider signing up for an Intuition Coaching session with me.
In line with what I learned in India, I hope through Intuition Coaching to instill in you more certainty in your own deep wisdom.
If you still crave the consultation of the cards, sign up for a tarot reading with me today.
Bring your community of gurus from different walks of life together for an online tarot event or learn the tarot as a group and deepen your own ability to tap into the archetypes for fresh insights.
And finally, thank you Swami Govindanana Saraswati at the Sivananda Ashram (pictured) for the ways you gave a lack of guidance. Thank you for nothing, sincerely.

This week, my best friend since I was 8 years old is visiting.
It’s a unique reflection to have someone close who has known you through so many phases of life.
I’m extra lucky that Sheri is a compassionate and kind witness, since other people I have known for years do not always offer such grace.
She and I started from a similar place: same school, same church, same taste in movies (Neverending Story, Dirty Dancing, Lost Boys, Willy Wonka, etc).
Our roads diverged quickly in our early 20’s when she got married and I graduated college. She’s now a Navy Mom of three who is a year away from an empty nest, and I am a solo entrepreneur who’s managing mid-life singledom.
Despite our different realms, we still get each other. We’re visiting my parents, and she can see so clearly how my family dynamic plays out from childhood to now.
Take a moment to consider seeing yourself from who you were in your youth to who you have become.
What influences pulled you one direction or another through your life?
How do other people’s reflections of who you are influence who you have become?
If you are still connected to someone kind who has known you for years, consider reaching out to them and offering each other insights into who you were and who you each have become. Sometimes, they can make sense of the trajectory from an angle you couldn’t see.
If you want to get more aligned with your best steps into your future self, sign up for a tarot reading with me today. Then, bring your friends from different walks of life together for an online tarot event or to learn the tarot with group tutoring.

Recently, I have had some fine epiphanies about the Power of the Pause.
I typically am going so fast that I default into my usual choices.
Recently, I made a very bold move for myself: I chose to go a day late on a camping trip.
I know, monumental right?
It was for me though. I try to do what I say I’m going to do as much as possible.
I feel guilt for any failure to follow through.
Integrity is important, but so is being authentic to your own limits.
Since this particular choice was initiated by an argument, it felt
dramatic. But it felt right in my core center.
I found that making this choice somewhat disconcerted me. I felt off kilter for hours afterwards.
I called a friend who recently graduated from therapy school and who is a consistent source of wisdom in these moments.
He pointed out that I was doing something that was showing myself value for myself.
We can talk all day about how much we hold self esteem, but only when we take actions that display self-worth does it really solidify as actual value.
It’s natural that the associated guilt coming up for me was deeply discombobulating. That’s going to happen every time I practice this type of self-care until it becomes normalized in my system.
My friend pointed out that baseball players during practice will have balls thrown at them on purpose. This helps them get less scared of getting hit by the ball.
We have to get in the line of the ball to get hit with a discomfort of choosing what we know is right for us enough times until we’re not scared of it anymore.
Sometimes, that’s in the best interest for everyone involved.
I was in a great mood when I showed up to camping the next day. I would not have been if I pushed myself to go the day I originally planned.
Granted, I also need to practice the pause when I schedule my time. It’s more considerate to say no early, rather than reschedule.
Another time it serves others for us to step back and pause to self care is when we are insisting on doing things for other people that they can do themselves.
When we do, we are saying to them that we can do things better than them and they can’t do it as well as us. That can dis-empower others from developing their own skills.
These behaviors are related to being a caretaker. There are beautiful aspects of that nature, but we can choose to clean up the shadows that don’t serve the greater good.
Ask yourself: How will Pausing to consider what your intuition is saying help you this weekend?
Take a real pause for insights when you sign up for a tarot reading with me today or bring your friends together for an online tarot event or learning the tarot together.

It took me a long time to love my body.
We all know the reasons for this. Society has weird standards that our parents and friends sadly buy into.
Even if we do fit the “ideals”, most of us experience an aversion to the design of our corporeal earth suit in some way. No matter what shape you are, it’s easy to find judgment.
Today, I want to celebrate your shape and mine, and share some of the ways that I embraced my own short and bootyful bounty.
When the negative thoughts creep in, I have learned to counter it with positive mantras about my body.
I also sometimes go through a gratitude practice: thanking each part of my body that I can name.
The first big shift in this journey of self-love though came from finding yoga.
Attuning to my body, mind, and spirit simultaneously helped alter my relationship to me.
With Yoga, I witness my abilities to become strong and capable while also aligning with the subtle sensations of energetic resonance that is also a part of this physical form.
I am excited to share with you Portlanders that I am now teaching yoga at a new center in Southeast!
The Classical Ballet Academy is an inclusive, body-loving dance center that just moved to 5516 SE Foster Rd.
Tuesdays at 9am is Hatha Yoga for all levels to get an energizing stretch
Starting in November, Wednesday at 7:15pm is Yin Yoga to decompress with a relaxed stretch of the joints
If you aren’t local and would like to do Zoom Yoga with me, please reach out and let me know and I can get that going this winter.
Yoga led me to seek out opportunities to dance, which helped me fall more in love with how my body moves energy. Dance is also proven to be one of the best ways to counter dementia.
Another resource that helps me is when I find media that cherishes people of all shapes and sizes.
That’s why I was so excited that Reese Marren at the Curated Card has put out the World of Hilda Tarot Deck, based on the stocky pin up girl of the 1950’s by Duane Bryers (who is adorably shaped like me).

I value your attention and am grateful to each of you who read these newsletters. I try to put thought and care into each of them to show my own regard for your presence here.
In this fascinating era we are existing in, our focus is being pulled so many directions. It’s a challenge to lead a simple life. Even as I write this email, distractions pull me sideways.
Today, my wish is to inspire us all to simply engage more fully with our attention setting.
This can be with depth, bringing mindfulness to the mundane moments as you chop a potato or drive your car.
This can be with choice, considering what is taking your time in a way that needs shifted.
Phone
Some of us can choose to leave the phone in another room, or put it on Do Not Disturb and only allow essential people to ring through. Offer yourself this over the weekend if it’s possible in your lifestyle.
One phone tool I love is FocusMe, which shuts down any app I request it to after the time I allotted for myself. You can override it when needed, but it altered my habits on social media immensely.
TV
If you relax with TV time, you can consider what energy the programs are offering you.
Perhaps you could benefit from more enriching movies by watching a work of art on the wonderfully curated Kanopy streaming service (10 free movies per month with your library card).
If you need less brain in your downtime, consider whether the shows you consume give an uplifting message, or resonate with criticism and depression.
As much as I love sci-fi, I pass up most Armageddon stories these days. I enjoy true crime, but now I save that as a treat that is not right before sleep. I try to lean into collaborative reality TV like Making it or the British Baking Show over Survivor.
Time Well Spent
Consider today what Quality Time means to you, and ask your loved ones to join you in this goal.
Arts and crafts or a game night together creates connection and memories.
Zoom chats with a friend abroad expands our world.
Learning a new skill like an instrument has been proven to help us overcome the blues.
Connection with a Unique Perspective
One of the reasons I love reading tarot is because I get to be completely absorbed in someone else’s world. That space of pure focus is precious to me, and it helps that I find our lives captivating.
If you crave some healthy focus on You with a compassionate companion, sign up for a tarot reading with me today or bring your friends together for an online tarot event of tuning into each other’s lives or learning the tarot together.
This message was inspired by the Instagram video posted below of Andrea Gibson, who was just named Poet Laureate of Colorado this week. Enjoy.
