Mindful Shopping Tips

My email inbox today is full of deals deals deals.

When this Black Friday mayhem first started, I boycotted it and scowled at the mobs frantically tearing into stores.

I have since let go of that righteous young morality and I have given in to the online opportunities.

Heck, I already got a deal for BritBox today so I can feed my inner anglophile and watch obscure Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Tom Hiddleston shows.

While naturally I am going to give you an offer in this email, I thought maybe we can all enjoy a moment of pulling away from the panic to make our best choices on our purchases.

Shopping is fun, and can amp us up. This state of urgency is not where you want to spend money from. But that’s the game, isn’t it?

Here’s some tips on how to to have fun and step into your own power in the hustle this weekend.

1. Before you dive into sales, sit and breathe for a few minutes.

2. Close your eyes and feel your body. Remind yourself that you are enough and have enough, just as you are.

3. Think of something you desire, and feel where that resides in your body.

What will it feel like to fulfill that? How will it practically satisfy you? Why do you crave it?

Is the state of desire enjoyable in itself and doesn’t need completed?

4. If not, set a budget. What is reasonable for you to spend on this, considering your current economic freedom?

5. Go hunting for the item on secure sites. Read reviews. Consider environmental impact.

6. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Research to ensure that the site offering the deal is a legit store.

7. Determine the best option among the deals. Put it in your shopping cart and WALK AWAY.

8. Do something unrelated for 20 minutes at least and then sit down to check in with your body again. How do you feel? Can you regulate out of excitement to a place that feels neutral and clear-minded?

9. Decide whether this is going to bring the joy you seek, or just adds to stuff you need to dust off. If the latter, delete it from the cart. If the former, buy it.

10. Hold gratitude that you can afford to treat yourself and your family and friends to items that bring you all joy and support.
